The Kings Arms has become infamous as the picture of York when the floods come! The pub is often photographed submerged below the River Ouse due its low level location beneath Ouse Bridge. Visitors are able to see where the floods have reached in previous years as the pub records each flood on a floor to ceiling plaque in the bar. The Kings Arms also has mementoes from its Scandinavian visitors who visit York annually to take part in the Viking Festival (in February) and compete in the long-ships race on the Ouse in front of the pub.
