Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese was built in 1667 after the Great Fire of London. There has been a pub on the site since the 1530’s, and it has a lot of history associated with it. Many famous people have been patrons of the Cheshire Cheese, including Charles Dickens, Dr Samuel Johnson and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The doorknocker is also reported to have been part of Oliver Goldsmiths house. The pub also contains a restaurant that is well known for its excellent traditional British fare.
