The Jerusalem Tavern is one of the most historic pubs in London, and its name is associated with the Priory of St John of Jerusalem. The tavern can be traced back as far as the 14th century, and has occupied many sites in the area since then. The current tavern was built in 1720 by Simon Mitchell, and was originally a merchant’s house, with the shop front being constructed in 1810. The tavern has been frequented by many historical figures, including Hogarth, Oliver Goldsmith and Handel.
